SQUARING UP WITH JOSE DAVILA...
Jose Davila's second solo exhibition entitled 'Stones Don't Move' with Sean Kelly in New York is showing until 3rd of December, and features his cut-out works, mobiles, glass and marble floor structures and works on paper - truly divine and fulfilling addition to the artist long list of institutional accomplishments. Definitely not to miss while in New York!
This mega talented Mexican-born artist's practice is located in the boundaries of homage, imitation and critique. You might be thinking "What the hell does that mean exactly?'" - Well, he says that In a sort of mirage, he uses different reproduction strategies to dismantle the relation between form and content, as well as manifest the virtues and deficiencies of his references. Frequently, the nature of these materials approaches architecture and construction, as well as formal artistic production, which subscribes his work to principles coined by Minimalism and Arte Povera.
